Sardinia
Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean, after Sicily. The island belongs to Italy and lies south of Corsica. Crystal-clear beaches such as Costa Smeralda and La Pelosa draw visitors every summer. Across the mountains and countryside stand the stone towers of the Nuragic culture, which are more than three thousand years old. Local cooking centres on pecorino sheep’s cheese, roast suckling pig and culurgiones, a stuffed pasta from the Ogliastra region. Locals pair these dishes with Cannonau, a red wine.
