Malta is an island country in the Mediterranean, and ferries connect it with Sicily. They also run between Malta, Gozo, Comino, and different parts of the coast.
From Sicily, the main route starts in Pozzallo. A high-speed catamaran takes you to Valletta in about 1 hour and 45 minutes, and you arrive right below the city’s old bastions. The schedule makes a day trip possible.
The first boat leaves at 07:30, so you have time to walk through Valletta, visit the walled city of Mdina, and relax on a beach before the last boat back at 20:00. Catania is another starting point, with a longer ride of more than four hours.
On board, you can relax in an air-conditioned lounge or go out on the deck to watch the sea. A café serves drinks and snacks, and Wi-Fi keeps you connected.
For extra comfort, you can choose the Club Lounge, where reclining seats, more legroom, and free drinks are included. Pets can travel with you or stay in a kennel on board. Some ferries from Sicily also carry vehicles. In summer, book one to two months ahead because popular crossings fill up quickly.
Once you are in Malta, ferries help you see more of the islands. From Valletta, the boat to Gozo arrives at Mġarr Harbour in about 45 minutes. In summer, you can also sail to Gozo from Sliema and Buġibba, and the Buġibba trip takes 30 minutes. Comino is a 20-minute ride from Ċirkewwa or Marfa.
Small ferries also connect Valletta with nearby towns. A 15-minute ride takes you to Sliema, where the landing is on a promenade full of cafés and shops. Another 15-minute ride crosses the Grand Harbour to Cospicua, one of the Three Cities, and from there you can walk to Birgu and Senglea.
